Englsih Portfolio

For English this year, it was really a new experience then compared to year 7. I have learnt and done many new things that I haven't really done in the pervious years. The two assement pieces I would like to show would be:the short story that was done during term 1 with Ms Ross andThe Essay Shaping Lives that was done during term 3 with Mr Boyle.

Term 2 Essay Writing:

The Happy Ending?


Ruth Summers hated him….. Why? He caused

her heart to hurt, like there was something burning to kill it. Ruth couldn’t even say his name again, she needed a holiday. Ruth had spent her whole life writing stories and articles for ‘Youth’ magazine, she enjoyed it and was well paid from it. But Ruth wanted a holiday to get over him. Who? Her boss, George Lithen. George Lithen was the hottest boss that everyone wanted, he had the looks, the hair and those white shining teeth to die for. Everyone wanted to be near him, especially the girls. They all wanted to be his working partner for life, and would never let a new transfer get in the way not matter how she looked. Ruth had been working at the very same office through out her whole career and hadn’t made any plan to move to another. Ruth was just an ordinary everyday working person, she wasn’t too pretty like the blonds at her office or to mean like the red heads, but she was smarter and much more hardworking than all of them put together. Ruth had longed to write stories of her own that had potential meaning behind them, but she couldn’t, as she wasn’t like Cathy Quin who got to write the stories of her own mind.

One day, George held a meeting for the whole

office. It was Cathy, Cathy had decided to take a few months off due to doctor’s orders, and that meant that someone needed to fill her spot ASAP. Cathy was a bit worried to whom she would pick to fill her spot. When everyone had settled George started explaining to his workers about the situation, Cathy scanned around the room. When her eyes met to Ruth she smiled, Cathy knew that Ruth was the great solution to her worries, when George was finished and asked Cathy to speak. Cathy stood up and walked towards Ruth, she put her hand on Ruth’s shoulders and said, ‘I have chosen Ruth and this is my final decision, unless Ruth rejects to take this position,’ with that she smiled and looked down and saw Ruth with her mouth opened. Ruth stared in amazement but replied, ‘Um… I don’t reject,’ with that George looked at Ruth with his charming eyes and said, ‘Ruth would take Cathy’s spot for a few months until she is better, this meeting is now over,’ with that everyone left except for Ruth, George and Cathy.

When Ruth was about to leave, Cathy asked if she could speak with her privately, with that George took the cue to leave, leaving them to talk. Cathy started, ‘Ruth I know this is really sudden, but I want you to do your best and work your hardest to help George with the magazine do you understand?’ looking at Ruth seriously, Ruth though to herself for a moment before replying, ‘Yes I understand, and I promise not to let you down!’ With that Cathy smiled knowing that she has chosen the right person, after hearing her reply she said bye to Ruth and left Ruth to think to herself.


The next day Ruth started her first day of being George’s partner, she did her hardest in everything and finished the tasks he had set for her, within a few hours. George was impressed in the way Ruth had worked today with that at the end of the day he asked her, ‘Ruth for all your hard work you have done today, I am going to reward you to dinner, how about that?’ waiting for Ruth’s reply. Ruth shocked, not expecting her boss to ask her out, started screaming, ‘You are such a play boy! How can you do such a thing behind Cathy back, after all that time and hard work she had put up to help you! I thought you loved her?!’ George uncovering his ears and walked closer to Ruth, ‘What are you even talking about? Cathy and I aren’t even going out! She and I are just really close….’ Trying to kiss Ruth, but before George could finish his sentence and kiss Ruth, Ruth had slapped him hard on the face, leaving a big, red hand mark. George quickly brought his hand that was on Ruth’s neck to his face screaming and swearing. With that Ruth got her purse and coat and was about to leave, until George grabbed her hand, ‘But ….I love you!’ Ruth disgusted by his respond kicked him hard on the shin and just left George grabbing his shin and hopping around like a bunny.


After Ruth had taken a long bath and had two whole box of chocolate, she sat outside her balcony with a glass of wine looking into the night sky. Ruth realised that life has so many unexpected things and is never what it seems.

Term 3 English Essay Shapping Me

Everyone is different and people’s lives are all shaped in many
different ways. Lives can be shaped by race, environment and the
media. But this can all vary from the way race, environment and the
media affect the individual. For example, children living in the
aboriginal community in the bush would have a different environment
and media impact compared to the children living in the Christian
community on the coast of Australia. Race would also have a
sufficient impact on the children. This is because the children
living in the aboriginal community would have a different
environment, race and media, compared to the children living in the
Christian community on the coast. Good, but try to leave your
examples for the body of the essay.


People’s lives can be affected by the type of race they have
grown up with. Some examples can be found in the movie Rabbit
Proof Fence
, which is about three aboriginal girls, who have been
taken away from their mother and family and taken to an aboriginal
settlement formed by the ‘white’ people. In this
settlement they were educated and had to live the way the ‘white’
people lived. But over time they gained courage to run away from the
settlement and return to their home town Jealong. Race had a big
impact on the three girls’ lives. They were taken away from
their family as they were born in the aboriginal community, and with
this, the ‘whiter’ people though they had the rights over
their lives as well. The three aboriginal girls were taken away from
their family, culture and traditions, native language and their home.
Their race had a major impact on how their education should be
compared to the ‘whiter’ race, what type of clothing they
should be wearing and what language they were allowed to speak
compared to the ‘whiter’ children. The movie showed that
if a child among the aboriginal children were to have lighter skin
colour compared to the other children, she would receive a ‘whiter’
education as well. Also, since the three girls were to live in the
settlement they had to live like the ‘whiter’ people and
to adide by the rules. Though, overtime, the three children had
gained the courage to travel back to their hometown. This shows that
even though race was a very significant factor in the lives of the
girls, they were able to overcome some of the disadvantages
associated with their race at this time due to determination of
character.

Media may shape someone’s life depending on the situation they
are in. For instance,Truman, in the movie The Truman Show, did
not know that he was adopted and was a star in a hit series TV show.
Truman had some positive and negative influence from the media. The
negative point of view was that Truman was living a life full of
lies. This was because Truman had been surrounded by actors who
pretended to be his friends, family members and even just strangers.
All the past vacations had also been set up along with who his
friends are and his wife. But some positive influence from media that
had affected Truman’s life was that he was also protected and
taken care of. This was because he was the main character of the TV
series, so all the actors had to be cautious of their surroundings
and to look out for Truman. Another positive effect on Truman was
that he was living in a perfect world compared to the ‘real’
world. All the streets were straight and clean, the houses were nice
and straight, and nothing went wrong with his life. There were no
burglaries and robbers that were involved with Truman’s life.
The movie show that the effect of the media can be particularly
significant on the development of a person.

The education that a person receives, can shape a person’s life
and influence the way he/she acts. Some examples on how education can
have an affect on a person’s life, can be how the person is
affected by their surroundings and their situations they are in.
Truman had a basic education such as learning the colours, numbers
etc., and the three aboriginal girls had a simple education compared
to the ‘white’ and ‘whiter’ children. Truman
had a basic education because the director of the show would not
allow Truman to discover that he was in a TV show, as Truman would
want to leave. The three aboriginal girls had a basic education
because the ‘white’ people thought that the aboriginal
children did not deserve the same education as they did. Write a
sentence which sums up the point you are making.


People’s lives can be shaped by the media, race and education.
The situation in which they are involved, like Truman and the three
aboriginal girls, can shape the lives of the people differently
.Overall, based on a person’s education, race and the influence
on media, a person’s life can be shaped differently to the
person next to them.

a good understanding of what we have been learning.

Always write a sentence at the conclusion of the paragraph which sums
up the point you have been making.

For this assement I had to write a story about two characters from this book Emma that the class was reading duing term 1. I had to change the setting from the book between the two character that I had deiced to write about, into a morden setting era.

Why I chose this piece of work?

I chose this piece of work becuase I really had fun writing this story about the 2 characters from a classic noval which was in old english which I couldn't really understand at first but after some explanation I understood what Jane Austen was writing about.

What I learnt from this?

What I had learnt from this piece of work was that even in the olden times there were some common daily problems and things that are still happening in this 21st centuary.

For term 3 in English, I had to write about how the surrouding of an induvisual can really affect someone's way of living. I had to give evidence to this from the movies and poems which was done in classes. The movies that the class watched was The Truman Show and The Rabbit Proof Fence.

Why I chose this piece of work?

I had chosen this piece of work because I really had enjoyed watching the two movies and anayslsing the movies.

What I learnt from this?


What I have learnt from this is that each induvisal lives can really be shaped depening on their surroudings. I also had learnt some anayslsing tips while watching those movies as well.

French Portofolio 2008

For 2008 my lote subject was French. French this year, I found that it was one of the subjects that I had enjoyed a lot. I had learnt many new things during this year's French classes and had also deepened my knowledge on things that I had learnt last year as well. Reflection 1:

Name: French (LEAP) Item: French Fashion Desginer Powerpoint

Term completed: Term 2

Description:

In French during term 2, I was learning about clothing; like shoes, shirts etc. and one of term's 4 assement was a 2-3 mins speech about a famous french fashion designer. But the speech is basically ment to be memorized, however some palm cards were allowed. The famous french designer which I had chosen to do this assement was Yves Saint Laurent. During this speech I had to talk about my french designer (like the age, when he started in the fashion industry etc.), his fashion styles, fashion products (perfumes, clothing etc), and had to describe 3 models from his latest collection. But after the speech, Mandam Laimer would ask us some questions from our speech and the powerpoint prepared.


Why I chose this piece of work?
I chose this piece of work becasue I felt that during this speech, and during the process of the work, I had really accomplished something new and challenging for me. This piece of work has really shown me that I have really imporved since I had started learning French in grade 4 and was struggling in it during that time. But now I am able to have a full 2-3 mins french speech about a fashion designer, mostly memorizing it and to be able to speak more fluently in french

What I learnt from this?
What I have learnt from this piece of assement is; to be able to improve my speaking lanugage in French by making sure I had understood what I was trying to talk about, and my writing skills in French as I was able to compare the structure of a sentance from last year and this assement and there was really a big improvement.

Description:


In french during term 3, I one of the topics that I was learning about was foods. We learnt how to say, write and put into different sentances of the many different types of vegetables, fruits, meats and drinks. One of the assement for this term was a speaking/ oral. But this assement had to be done with a partner, and my partner was Emma. We had to choose either one of us was student A and the other B, Student A was the student that had to act as the shopper while student B was the shop owner. We had to create a dialogue between the two people but at the same time reaching the requirements, which were; greatings, using est-ce que (Is it that), saying what is available/ isn't avaiable using the verb avoir (to have) and the correct forms of de la/ du/ del'/ des/ de, by using gestures to show expressions, asking/ giving the price of an item, a complaint about the price, as if there more/ if that's all and to say goodbye.

Why I chose to piece of work?

I had chosen this piece of work becasue I was really proud with my results of this assement and I had really taken another step from my previous speaking assement in term 2. My result was A but this was the first time I had gotten an A for speaking in this subject. But this piece of work had really shown my improvement since the last speaking test which had taken place in term 2. Instead of just memorising some parts of my speech like I did in term 2, this time I had to memorise my whole SPEECH !!! However, I felt really proud after doing this piece of assement. ^^

What I learn from this?

What I had learnt from this piece of assement, is to always try your hardest everytime and to overcome all challenges as after all that hardwork you would achieve the results that you wanted. This is because I have always been trying my hardest with my speeches each year and been geting bs, but after each speaking assement I would always try to improve on the things that could have been done better, and for the results I had gotten an A in the end.

Music Portfolio 2008

In Music this year, the classes of 8P and 8M were joined together forming two different classes mixed with students from both classes. For semester 1 during term 2, one of the assignment was to create CD album of a made up band. But this CD album had to include a CD case, CD cover, CD cover-back, Band members profiles, Band history (how the formed the band etc.) song styles and the songs titles (lyrics were optional).

I chose this peice of work becuase I really had fun making this CD assignment. I had created a group that was called Bagin' Sticks!!! I really enjoyed creating the memebers of the group and to be able to talk about the style that my band group had and how they all came together as a band.
What I learnt from this?

I had learnt from this assignment is that you can really create a band group and a cd for that band just for the fun of it!! As well as being marked for it!

Description:

Depending on the msucial instrument it varys in what musical groups I'm in. For example if the instrument was Cello, then I would be in groups like GCYO and Senior Strings.


Why I chose this piece of work?

I chosen to show these msucial achievements because I really think that I had done an outstanding job with my music through this year. I also have experienced many new experiences like being accepted in the State Hounors Program that happened during term 3's holidays in Brisbane and I also have learnt many new things from these ecperiences.

What I learnt from this?

What I have learnt from these musical experiences are; to be more confident with my musical instrunments, as well as epxeriencing different conducts other than the school's.

Art 2008

For Art this year, the whole grade had to have their own blog. This Art blog shows all the student's reflections, what they have learnt during the lessons thorugh out the year, pictrues and the progress of the semester 2's major art piece which was the aniamal mask. The Art blog really shows what the girls have been doing through out the year and is very enjoyable to search for classmates and friends blogs as well.

Description:


For Art this year I had decieded to display my art blog online. My art blog is basically like my art book expect there are extra pictures and it is a lot easier to display my art work from this year. My Art blog has my reflections that I have done through out the year about what I have been doing in art classes. It also shows some drawings, sketches and some theory work that I had done during classes. My art blog also shows picture of my art mask which was semester 2's major art work, it displays the process of making my mask.

Why I chose this piece of work?


I had chosen this piece of work because I really had enjoyed what my art class had been doing through this year and the best way to have shown what I had done during this year was through my art blog.

What I learnt from this?

What I have learnt from my art blog, is first of all how to start a blog! At the beginning of the year I had no idea how to really set up a blog till Mr Powell taught the whole class. I also learnt how to present pictures of my major piece in semester 2 on my art blog and how to search for my classmate's blogs to see what they have been doing in art as well.

Name: Math (LEAP)

Item: Special Number Assignment

Term completed: Term 1

Description:

My Special Number assignment was an assignment, where I had chosen a number from 10 -100 and explain why I had chosen this certain number. But I had to decribe this number and give 5 connection to this number, and also explain 5 mathematical things about this number as well. The number that I had chosen to do this assignment was 20.

Why I chose this piece of work?

I had chosen this piece of work because I had really enjoyed doing this assement and had found this an intersting assement done in math. I really had fun doing this assement and I also found it a nice and fun assement to start off the year.

What I learnt from this piece of work?

What I have learnt from this piece of work is that you can have both fun and math together at the same time. I also had learnt many intersting things about the number 20 just by finding some connection to this number and some mathematical. An example can be when I type the number 20 into google search, the resutls would be 9,940,000,000 which goes into 20, 497, 000,000 times.

Item: Data, Analaysis Assignment

Description:

This piece of assement was done during the middle of term 3, it is about anayalsing the data that was given from the class survery and the CAS survery done from the whole of Queensland. I had to anayalise some patterns that could have been seen in the survery and to be able to indetify which graph was suitable for the data to be shown with. I later had to write a conculstion which evalutes and explain about the data given from the 2 survery.

Why did I chose this piece of work?

I chose this piece of work because I was really happy with the results in the end of this assement. I was happy becuase I had recieved the results that I wanted after putting in all that hard work for this assement. But not only that, I also have learnt how to use excel better and to be able to turn given data into most graphs.

What I learnt from this?

What I had learnt from this assement was that after putting in all that hardwork into this assement I had achieved the results that I had really wanted. I also have improved my knowledge of using excel, by being able to know how to interpritate given data into graphs or the approiate measure of tendency. I also learnt what the measure of tendency was and the different types of graphs.

Business, Finance & Management

Business, Finance and Management was one of the new subject this year. Business was one of the subjuect that I had enjoy and had learnt many new things in the business world which I didn't know about. I would like to show you my Business book, which shows all the things I have learnt through term 4's business classes.

I write in my business book during every lesson that I have, it is filled with lots of sheets about income, savings and goals. My book also includes suverys about earning, spending and savings that were done during in-class time as well as some articles that were written.


Why I chose this piece of work?

I chose this piece of work beacause my business book shows a vary of things that I did during classes as well as showing what I have learnt during these classes.

What I learn from this?

What I have learnt from working in my business book is; The Gerneral rule for spending, charity and savings which is also know as the 60, 10, 30 (60% spending, 10% charity, and 30% saving rule.) I also have learnt many new things, about money terms, savings, cheques and many more things about the business and finance world today.

This Is My Protfolio of 2008

Hi everyone,

Welcome to my 2008 portfolio!!! I hope that you will enjoying going through my electronic portfolio on blogger. I just wanted to let you all know why I had chosen to do this years portfolio as a electronic version. Well... one reason is becasue it is a lot easier do set up an online portfolio ^^ and it is also less time comsuming for me to make one. I have just started on my portfolio so there isn't much to see now, but soon, I promise you, this blog will be filled with lots of interesting work that I had done during this whole year.
